When You Can’t Follow Your Heart.
Saturday, February 25, 2023Key Verse
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” Psalm 19:7
Text — Psalm 19:7-11
Message
God has made man perfectly. He made him the head of all He created. He has put in him all he needs to be creative and guided safely through life: the eyes to see, the ears to hear, the mouth to express himself, the mind to think and the heart to perceive and take decisions. From time to time however some situations may seem confusing, threatening or tempting such that the mind cannot think through to a solution. What is the way out then in this kind of situation? Some people have advised “Follow your heart.” While it is true that naturally, man can by instinct or inner voice find solution or direction in some of life’s tough or confusing situations. This does not work however for every life situation or challenges.
For example, there is no way a drug addict can get free from his addiction by following his heart because the heart is already fixed to choose drugs. Our Bible passage shows that a mind corrupted by sin needs conversion. It is the law and testimony of the Lord that can reprogram the mind from corruption of sin. True joy and power to live a godly life is in the word of God. The counsel the Bible gives is sure and unfailing. God’s word cannot go wrong. It is “righteous and true altogether.” God’s word cannot be replaced by earthly wealth and pleasure. Therefore, you must love it, seek it, hide it in your heart and let its instruction guide your life.
