Key Verse
““Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth:” Genesis 11:9a
Text — Genesis 11:1-9
Message
The tower of Babel was built on a plain in the region of Shinar, located in ancient Mesopotamia on the eastern bank of the Euphrates river, about thirty miles from modern day Baghdad. After the flood, the people began to multiply again. Soon, they forgot about the judgment that wiped out the world and they began to imagine evil in their heart. They wanted to make a name for themselves by building a mighty city and a tower “whose top may reach unto heaven.” God disrupted the work by confusing the language of the workers that they could no longer understand one another. God did not like the pride and arrogance in the hearts of the people. God caused the people to suddenly speak different languages so they could not communicate and work together to build the tower. This caused the people to scatter across the land. The tower was named ‘The Tower of Babel’ because the word Babel means confusion.
This story is a powerful reminder of how important it is to obey God’s Word. No one can build a successful life on his own. Today learn to obey God and not depend on your own efforts to succeed.
