Key Verse
“If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man’s field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.” Exodus 22:5
Text — Exodus 22:1-6
Message
God in His wisdom gave laws that will promote peaceful coexistence among His people. The all-knowing God, understands the selfishness and the wickedness of the hearts of men and thus established processes by which wrong done to fellow human beings can be made right. Whenever you are tempted to judge wrongly by thinking the other fellow is unfair when they demand restitution, then turn the table around and put yourself in their position. How do you feel? Imagine your friend’s parents just bought her a new textbook and you took it to read then through your carelessness, you tore the book in the process.
If your friend takes the book back home in that condition, she will surely pay for it as her parents will really spank her. You will have to make things right by giving your own new textbook so that she will not suffer for your carelessness. This is the instruction in our Bible passage. Some children in this case will say sorry but sorry is not enough as it will not take away the damage done. When we remember that we always have to make it right if it goes wrong, then we will handle things we borrow or that are put under our care responsibly. Don’t damage other people’s things, if you do, endeavour to make it right.
