Text — Exodus 15:20-21
Message
Singing is an act of producing musical sounds with your voice while expressing the feelings of your heart. It may be accompanied by musical instruments and a dance. You may sing a new song of your own or a known song composed by another. Singing is an act of worship or devotion and it is highly recommended in Scriptures. In the New Testament, believers are admonished to speak to themselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in their heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:19).
Miriam led the women to sing the song of Moses. In our singing, we must follow the example of Miriam and the admonition of scriptures.
- (i) Our songs must be unto to the Lord and not for entertainment.
- (ii) Our songs must be songs with a message, and clearly state the purpose of the song.
- (iii) Our songs must be spiritual and from the heart; there should be no cloak of hypocrisy or insincerity.
- (iv) Our songs must be scripturally and doctrinally sound, and should not contradict any part of Scriptures.
