Signet Of God’s Providence

Key Verse

“And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water” (Exodus 2:10).

TEXT —  Exodus 2:5-10

Message

During their civilisation which lasted for over 3,000 years, the ancient Egyptians had so much going for them. History tells us that they were at the forefront of commerce, Mathematics, astronomy, engineering, agriculture, civil rule, etc. It was, therefore, a centre of attraction for so many foreigners as was the case of the Jewish patriarchs found in the Bible. The pharaohs that ruled the empire, which included a few foreigners, were of different dynasties. It was, therefore, considered an honour and privilege of the highest form to be part of the royal family.

At the time of Moses’ birth, the reigning pharaoh commanded the Hebrew midwives to kill all the male children at birth. When the midwives cleverly disobeyed, they decreed the killing of all male children of the Hebrews. Moses was, therefore, born in a culture of death. However, the overarching providence of God kept him. In a move of faith, his parents, after hiding him for three months, placed him in a basket covered with bulrushes and dropped it in the River Nile, with his sister watching. Moses was discovered and adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter who was moved with compassion by his cry. At the suggestion of Moses’ sister, Pharaoh’s daughter paid the baby’s mother to nurse him. As her son, she also gave him the best education available at the time. When the child grew up, he was brought to Pharaoh’s daughter who named him Moses and made him live with the royal family.

This event had the mark of divine providence and proved that Moses had the seal of God upon his life, from the womb. It was the wisdom, care, and control of God that made Moses’ parents take risky steps to preserve him. Moses also survived the fierce crocodile-infested Nile River. There should be no doubt about God’s care and control over our lives. Things may not work out exactly the way we imagined them. But we have a God whose wisdom is much higher than our thoughts, who loves us and has our best interests at heart. He has a plan for every one of us.

Thought for the day

No ingenuity on earth or in hell can annul the plan and purpose of God.
