Key Verse
“That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever” (Joshua 4:24).
TEXT — Joshua 4:19-24
Message
Milestones are important for individuals, groups and even nations. They are notably marked for future references. Joshua, no doubt, was awed by God’s might and marvelous work in taking the children of Israel through the overflowing Jordan river on dry ground. He had instructed the people to take twelve stones out of the dried river basin, to raise a memorial monument unto the Lord.
God’s mighty power accomplishes the extraordinary and supernatural in the lives of His children. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. God is delighted when his children raise a memorial of praise and thanksgiving for the wonders He accomplished in their lives. Such ‘memorial stones’ could be in the form of soul-stirring testimonies, deeper commitment to His service, spectacular project or contributions to projects for God and naming specific things to commemorate His great works. More importantly, however, the biggest monument we can erect is to dedicate ourselves to the Almighty.
The purposes and the expected outcomes of raising a memorial stone to the Lord include: proclamation of His mightiness before all people, promoting His fear among the people, prompting others to trust in the awesome and mighty God, persuading the dissidents that He only is the ultimate power, presenting the source of solution to all challenges in all generations and pronouncing the Lord as the final Arbiter over flesh and all things.
Just as Joshua honoured God by raising a memorial monument to Him, we must ensure the totality of our lives are a monument of praise to the Lord who has done great things for us.
