Phillip Made His Mark – Part 1.

Key Verse

“Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them” (Acts 8:5).

Text — Acts 8:4-8

Message

If you are born again, wise, full of the Holy Ghost, and honest report, but nothing much else is known about you, then you are like Philip in Jerusalem. It was when persecution made him flee to Samaria that the giant in him showed up and he made his mark. David Yonggi Cho wrote, “Our gospel preaching must be in the power of the Holy Spirit, followed by signs and wonders; for wherever the gospel is preached, the old man is thrown off and our old master, the devil, goes out with a loud cry.” That was just what happened when Philip preached Christ in Samaria.

Philip had a willing heart, which was why when Jesus issued a personal call to him to follow Him (John 1:43), he left his old life behind and answered the call. Be like Philip and preach the gospel everywhere you go. Philip remains in religious history as one of the most important Christian preachers, who learned the truth about the kingdom of God at the feet of Jesus and preached it until the end of his life.

  1. Good morning brethren.
    Thank you for the presentations on today’s higher everyday. It was refreshing.
    However, I have an observation to make, please. The last sentence in today’s lesson says, “Philip remains in religious history as one of the most important Christian preachers, who learned the truth about the kingdom of God at the feet of Jesus and preached it until the end of his life.” This is not very correct in that the Philip in Acts 8 was not the apostle Philip of the gospels. Jesus called the “12” apostles (Luke 6:13
    And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;

    ” However, this Acts 8 Philip was referred to as “The evangelist” (Acts 21:8
    And the next day we that were of Paul’s company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

    )
    His story began in Acts 6, as a companion in faith to Stephen,etc.
    Thank you for your input but this point needs to be corrected.
    Blessed day.

  2. In addition to the foregoing observation, the Philip in Acts 8 was not the apostle Philip of the gospels. Jesus called the “12” apostles (Luke 6:13
    And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;” However, this Acts 8 Philip was referred to as “The evangelist” (Acts 21:8 “And the next day we that were of Paul’s company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.”)
    His story began in Acts 6, as a companion in faith to Stephen,etc. The apostles were not scattered abroad, but only the converted members (Acts 8:1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, *EXCEPT tHE APOSTLES.*)
    So, the statement, “Philip remains in religious history as one of the most important Christian preachers, who learned the truth about the kingdom of God at the feet of Jesus and preached it until the end of his life.” This is not very correct, according to the Bible.
    Thank you for your input but this point needs to be corrected.
    Blessed day.
