Peace Like A River.

Key Verse

“O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:” Isaiah 48:18

Text — Isaiah 48:18-22

Message

In the English Language, ‘simile’ is a figure of speech used to make comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind. In a simile, words such as “as”, and “like” are used. In today’s topic, we see peace being compared to a river that is continually running. The water surges over rocks, logs of wood falls, or any other kind of obstacles. The river simply finds a way to go around or over obstacles, it just keeps flowing. So, when we talk of peace like a river, we talk of peace as something that can be continually flowing in our lives despite our situations or obstacles on our path.

Jesus Christ did not promise believers an easy life, that is without challenges all through. He told us we will go through troublous times or situations in the course of following and serving Him. However, He assures us that He will be with us in every situation of life. John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.

In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Life is full of storms, trials, troubles, and needs, but the Bible says that we can have peace like a river in the midst of troubles. Believers must learn to focus on Jesus in all situations. Peace comes when we focus our mind not on our problems, but on the Lord. This can be achieved through constant prayers and meditation on God’s word.
