Jesus Saves

Key Verse

“She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more” (John 8:11).

Text — John 8:1-11

Message

Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost. During His earthly ministry, He saved many people including: Nicodemus, Zacchaeus the Samaritan woman, and Apostle Paul. Hence C. S. Lewis said, “The salvation of a single soul is more important than the production or preservation of all the epics and tragedies in the world.”  The Scribes and the Pharisees in our text wanted to trap Jesus through their tempting questions.  Jewish law required stoning in situations of adultery as enunciated in Leviticus 20:10 and Deuteronomy 22:22. If Jesus advocated for the woman’s release, He might have been charged with breaking the Mosaic Law. On the other hand, if Jesus advocated for stoning the woman, He would have violated the Roman law, thereby inciting the Roman government’s fury and giving the Jewish leaders reason to cast blame upon Him. While the religious leaders advocated for instant judgment for the sinner, Jesus offered her salvation.  By this act of Jesus, it is clear that even a vile sinner can come to Jesus for forgiveness. Let us bring lost sinners to Him.
