Key Verse
“Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.” Numbers 32:5
Text — Numbers 32:4-8
Message
Samson was a promised child; the prophecy about his birth, name and duty was given by an angel before he was conceived. The whole nation of Israel looked up to him as their deliverer. God blessed Samson with all that it takes for him to deliver the children of Israel from the hands of the Philistines. But Samson went to marry a wife without the permission and approval of God and his parents. He lost his life to his disobedience. Lot was another man, who, out of greediness, settled outside the will of God. The choice he made brought a great loss to him. Even his wife died in the process. The greatest danger for a Christian is to settle down or to choose to act outside God’s will.
In our Bible passage, the children of Reuben and Gad made a selfish request. Like Eve they ‘saw and desired’ the land; but the Promised Land was over Jordan. Yet they did not want to be brought over there. They looked at the number of their cattle and felt God would not be able to take care of them in Canaan. History tells us that they were the first among the children of Israel to be taken away captive; as they were the first to reject God and served the idols of the land. Be careful of the choices you make; friends you keep, places you visit, videos you watch or sites you visit. Be prepared to get to heavenly Canaan by your desire and determination to stay in God’s will.
