How often do you read your Bible? Do you enjoy it? Are you delighted in the Word of God? Does the blessings in it follow you daily? Well, there was this story of a fisherman who read the Bible, memorized and believed that God never fails. His famous verse of the scripture was Psalm 23:1 – “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want”. He became so popular because of this verse and people nicknamed him after this Bible verse. The king in his town suddenly felt that his popularity was over-shadowing his kingship as both young and old chorused “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want” whenever the fisherman passed by. The king and his cabinet therefore plotted to disgrace and kill the man to prove that the verse he always recited cannot save him. But God proved them wrong. They gave him the king’s ring to keep for two weeks after which he will bring it forth in the presence of the whole town to receive an award. Meanwhile they sneaked into his house in his absence to get the ring and threw it into the sea. God miraculously made the ring to be swallowed by a fish which the fisherman caught and rediscovered the ring. To the surprise of the king and his cabinet, the fisherman produced the ring that they threw into the sea. The Lord truly is our shepherd and we shall not want. Put your faith in His never failing promises as you sing this song:
“The Bible stands, though the hills may tumble it will firmly stand,
though the earth may crumble,
I will plant my feet on its firm foundation
For the Bible stands.”
