Key Verse
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of God shall stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8).
Text — Isaiah 40:6-8
Message
Hear the opening lines of the song, “The Bible Stands,” written by Haldor Lillenas (1917):
“The Bible stands like a rock undaunted
‘Mid the raging storms of time;
Its pages burn with the truth eternal,
And they glow with a light sublime.
They perfectly describe the immutability of God’s word and precisely echo the Scripture which says, “Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89). The Bible is a compendium of the written word of God which has withstood the test of time. Great emperors and infidels have fought to wipe the Bible out of existence but failed. Words of great men of eloquence in history, literature and philosophy have lost their grip on men with the passage of time. But God’s Word never loses its power and potency. Moreover, God’s Word transforms lives. The commands in God’s word are still binding, the promises are unfailing, the precepts are permanent. “Heaven and earth shall pass away; but my words shall not pass away”(Luke 21: 33). Beloved, let your faith be rooted in the Word of God.
