Key Verse
“Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.” Acts 8:4
Text — Acts 8:4-8
Message
The most important assignment that Jesus gave to His friends before going back to heaven was the preaching of the gospel. He gave a command to that effect saying “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” After His ascension, the disciples then waited patiently to receive the promised power. On the day of Pentecost, the power of the Holy Ghost fell upon the disciples and they became bold and courageous in preaching the gospel.
In carrying out this great assignment, they forgot that they were to go from Jerusalem, to Samaria and to the uttermost part of the earth. Then a great persecution arose that made them to scatter here and there. Therefore, they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the gospel in obedience to Christ’s command to the church. It was this obedience that made them to experience great signs and wonders.
Evangelist Philip went down to Samaria and preached to the people, what was the result? (i) The whole city with one mind believed the word of God. (ii) Many of the Samaritans were saved and the church was established. (iii) The sick and possessed were healed and delivered. (iv) There was great joy in the city. Obedience to the Great Commission will always result in signs and wonders following. If you are a friend of Jesus, you must obey Jesus’ command by preaching the gospel to all around you. Then your life will witness signs and wonders.
