Key Verse
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
Text — John 8:31-36
Message
The English poet and hymn writer, William Cowper wrote, “He is the freeman whom the truth makes free, And all are slaves beside.” Every human being is born a sinner, a slave to sin. The only way to know the truth is to obey the true gospel as declared in the Bible. Knowing the truth sets us free from the bondage of sin, the yoke of Satan, and eternal death.
God’s truth gives freedom from the guilt of sin and fear of judgment of God. The Gospel truth breaks the band of misery and destroys and dispels the works of darkness. Truth releases one from ignorance, superstition, and evil passions.
Jesus prayed for the disciples, “Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth.”
At salvation, a sinner is set free from outward sin. Believing the truth on sanctification provides the believer the opportunity to pray for freedom from inward corruption and the propensity to do evil. Anyone who turns down the truth will remain in bondage to sin and Satan. Come to Jesus, the Fountain of all truth, for independence from Satan.
