Message
“Your emotional abilities aren’t in hand, if you don’t have self-awareness, if you are not able to manage your distressing emotions, if you can’t have empathy and have effective relationships, then no matter how smart you are, you are not going to get very far,” said Daniel Goleman. Emotion refers to strong feelings that are stimulated by circumstances, mood or our relationship with people around us. Unhealthy emotions could manifest as depression, anxiety, anger and poor peer interactions. God expects His children to maintain healthy emotions at all times to foster peace with all men.
Emotional intelligence has five interrelated components – self-awareness, self-regulation, self-motivation, empathy and social skills. The first component of emotional intelligence is self-awareness. It helps you to know yourself, your abilities and limitations. Paul, the apostle, encourages believers to examine themselves. Thus, honest self-evaluation would help you to know yourself, your spiritual state and guide you in prayers. Sinners need to pray for salvation from all sins, thus overcoming all violent emotional behaviour while believers should pray for sanctification experience to enjoy inner peace.
