Memory Verse
“If a soul sin, and commit a trespass, against the Lord, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep,” Leviticus 6:2a
Text: Leviticus 6:2-4
Lying is commonly practiced everywhere on earth even among children. It is very wrong to tell lies for whatever reason. Lying is the act of saying or doing what is wrong with the desire to deceive and make people around accept that as the truth. Ungodly people lie easily to one another but God forbids it among His children and even among unbelievers. Satan is the father of all lies. In giving His law to His people, God warned them that lying to their neighbour is a great sin before Him.
Lying was commonly practiced by the nations that surrounded Israel. God could not accept lying as their way of life because every other nation practiced it. The effect of lying is grave. Lying causes pain and regret to the person you lie to. It makes him to accept what is wrong as right. It causes the innocent person to be cheated. It deprives the person lied to of what rightly belongs to him. Lying makes the liar untrustworthy and unacceptable before God. A liar will go to hell. Today, having seen again the evils of lying, you must ask Jesus for forgiveness and promise Him you will not tell lies again.
