Key Verse
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right; Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise”(Ephesians 6:1, 2).
Text — Ephesians 6:1-3
Message
It was Tioro who rightly stated that “A man who neglects his duty is not entitled to his right.” The Bible verses above instruct that children should obey their parents “in the Lord” because it is the first commandment with the promise of long life and welfare. Parents have the responsibility to care for and teach their children obedience and how to live well. They should also pray for them and with them. On the other hand, children have to obey their parents, running errands for them and supporting them when they are old.
Dear friend, respect and obey your parents. You should not wait for them to tell you to study, wash clothes, and dishes, and do general cleaning of the house and compound. If the children in the home are many, the duties can be shared with each child doing his or her own properly and timely. In the Old Testament times, disobedience to parents was punishable by death (Deuteronomy 21:18-21; Proverbs 20:20). However, you do not even have to be spanked if you honor your parents.
