Key Verse
“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:26
Text — Matthew 16: 24- 26
Message
Dick was travelling with his mother in a ship on the high sea. Midway, a storm arose and tossed the ship. This gave everyone some concern. The ship captain said to everyone, “To save the ship from sinking and preserve our lives, you all need to throw all your belongings into the sea”. “But all my precious things will be lost”, a very rich merchant on board complained. The captain replied, “Whatever we lost can be replaced; but what can replace a lost life?” The captain’s reply indeed echoed the words of Jesus Christ in our key verse.
The soul is the part of each human being that can never die even long after the body is dead and decayed. It is the part of man that will go to heaven or be cast into hell fire immediately after the body is dead. You need to care for your souls. Sin stains the soul and makes it unworthy for the Holy City of God (Heaven). Jesus Christ died and shed His blood to provide cleansing for the soul. His blood also purifies the spirit, soul and the body as well.
Be careful not to pay too much attention to the things of this world that you neglect the care of your soul. You must be determined to take care of your spiritual life (soul) through personal fellowship with God, obedience to all His words, preaching the gospel, helping others and living a holy life.
