A New Name

Memory Verse

“… To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” Revelation 2:17b

Text: Revelation 2:12-17

The chorus of a hymn has this to say: “There’s a new name written down in glory,And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine!And the white-robed angels sing the story
A sinner has come home.”
For there’s a new name written down in glory, And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine;
With my sins forgiven I am bound for heaven, Never more to roam.”
Names are important and significant in everyone’s life. Names are means of identification and they tell a lot about a person – where you come from, who or what you believe in. Some people give their children names in the Bible e.g. Mary, Jacob, Esther, Deborah, Paul, Elijah etc. All these are good. However, there is a special name for some special people. Who are these people? They are those who have forsaken their sins and are following Jesus daily in holiness of heart and life. God has given each of them a new name in heaven which no one else knows.
Maybe you are known as a stubborn child, backbiter, rogue, cheat or any kind of bad name because of your lifestyle. The name can change today if you ask Jesus to forgive your sins, cleanse your heart/life of all evils and invite Him to be Saviour and Lord of your life. He will give you a new name which will be written down in heaven where you will live with Jesus forever. The time to take that decision to have a new name is now – do not delay.
