“What Killed Goliath – Part 1 – Pride”

Key Verse

“And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.” 1 Samuel 17:10

Text — 1 Samuel 17:1-10

Message

Goliath was a man of war, he can be referred to as an army general. He had a lot of things working for him on which he relied. He had been a man of war from his youth so, he was already being referred to as a champion. Also, he was of great height, had a complete physical armour for battles- helmet of brass, a coat weighing five thousand shekels of brass, greaves of brass on his legs and shoulders, a staff of spear like a weaver’s beam weighing six hundred shekels of iron and a shield bearer.

All these credentials filled his heart with pride that made him defy the armies of the Living God. He died a humiliating death because God Himself resists or fights the proud. He trusted so much in his ‘gods’ that he completely forgot the Almighty- the creator of heaven and earth. What a shame! Pride always brings destruction. Do not allow it in your thoughts, action or words. Ask the Lord to help you live a life of humility.
