Key Verse
“Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.” Psalm 131:1
Text — Psalms 131:1-3
Message
Haughty heart and lofty eyes go together. They are two friends that cannot be separated. Haughtiness means pride and lofty means arrogance. Pride starts with what your eyes see. What you see about yourself: your brilliance, good look, the wealth of your parents: the cars they ride, the house you live in, the clothes you wear, the school you attend and others. Pride may lift one up before people but it will make a person fall before God.
Like the Psalmist, every sincere child of God must hate these traits. Pride makes you feel you know more than others and that you are placed above everyone. It made Lucifer rebel against God, his Creator. We have read of men who out of the pride of their hearts and loftiness of their eyes mocked the Word of God and fell under divine judgment.
Pride leads to shame, regret and eternal separation from our loving God. The Bible counsels that we should humble ourselves before God. It is only then we shall be exalted. There is nothing in this world that should build up pride and arrogance in your life. God is the Giver of all things; all the glory must be unto Him for His wonderful gift of life. You must humble yourself before God by obeying His word and sharing His love with people around you.
