The Nine Ingrates

Key Verse

“And Jesus answering said, were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger” (Luke 17:17-18).

Text — Luke 17:11-19

Message

“It has been said that the sin of ingratitude is more serious than the sin of revenge. With revenge, evil is returned for evil, but with ingratitude, evil is returned for good,” says, W. Eugene Hansen. Gratitude is not simply a polite response to favour received; it is a powerful force that influences personal and collective experiences.  Here in our text, Christ cleansed ten lepers who ordinarily were outcast; not enjoying the affection of communal affinity with others.

Though the ten lepers were unanimous and importunate in requesting healing from Christ, only one of them returned to give thanks to Him, the Healer after their healing. The other nine were ungrateful. Hence, Christ asked, “Where are the nine”? We ought to always give thanks to God and everyone for all the favours we receive. If you have ever received favour and mercy from God before in your life, just like the one leper who returned to thank Jesus for his healing, be humble to return the glory and adoration to God.

Quote
