The Book In Your Mouth

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;” Joshua 1:8
Text — Joshua 1:6-9
Message
God gave a strong warning to Joshua that he should not fail to carry the Book of the law of God in his mouth wherever he went. That was the only way he would prosper and succeed in God’s assignment. It is said “The world is ruled actually by the mouth not by the hand.” A person who fears God and speaks godly words will surely make a good and peaceful leader. God knew that Joshua, the new leader of Israel, would only succeed if the words of his mouth were godly and divine. Joshua’s victory or defeat would depend on what he said with his mouth.
God took time to explain to him what it meant to keep the law in his mouth: (1) He should take time to read, study, and meditate or think on God’s laws. ‘Meditate’ is a spiritual word that seems to have the same meaning as the biological word, ‘digest’. If you eat the most balanced diets, but your stomach does not digest them, then those meals will not nourish your body. (2) Obedience or doing the law of God was the next action that would bring good success, courage and strength to Joshua, Israel and even to us today.
We always carry our Bibles in our hands or sometimes put them under our pillows while sleeping. Yet, the Book is only effective and powerful when we speak and believe it. We should not merely carry the Bible about in our hands, but memorize its promises and commandments and speak to our conditions and fears. The word of God you speak or sing with your mouth has power over sin, sickness, Satan and his servants. Carry the Book of the law, the Bible, in your mouth. Read it daily, obey it always, speak it to your problems and preach it to those around you
