The Altar
Sunday, December 21, 2025Key Verse
“We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.” Hebrews 13:10
Text — Hebrews 13:10-13
Message
In the Old Testament, the altar was the centre of worship in the sacrificial system. An altar was used for all the offerings that were made to the Lord. It was made of wood or big stones, and a fire would be made on top of it. Although there were different kinds of offerings that could be made, it was the only place where people could offer an animal to God for their sin. The animal would be killed and laid on the altar as a sign that the sin had been paid for by death and blood. This sign was pointing to Jesus who would come to earth to lay down His life, once and for all, and die for every sinful child.
Because the blood of Jesus washes every sin from our hearts, we no longer need to sacrifice animals for the forgiveness of our sins. All a sinner needs do is to repent, ask for pardon and cleansing of his sins and accept Jesus as His personal Saviour and Lord. Though we have the physical altar in our present system, where the minister stands to preach the word of God, our heart is the greatest altar that we must dedicate to God. Offer your heart to God as a living sacrifice as you daily live a holy life. Then Jesus will reign in your heart as your Lord, Master and King forever.
