Thank God When It Pains
Sunday, March 22, 2026Key Verse
“At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.” Psalm 119:62
Text — Psalm 119:62-64
Message
Dorothy’s mom knelt down by the bed of her sick daughter weeping and praying. Dorothy heard when the mom prayed saying, “Lord, I thank you for all the pains, Dorothy has been going through; please have mercy and heal her now.” Dorothy wondered, “how can my mom be thanking God for my pains: does mummy really know what I have been passing through?” Midnight is the moment between the close of the present day and the beginning of a new day. Midnight is considered to be the time when the night is darkest and most fearful.
Figuratively, midnight stands for the time of problem, difficulties, pain, trouble, disappointment, failure and fear in people’s lives. Yet, good things can happen at midnight too. It was at midnight that God smote all the firstborn of the Egyptians and set the children of Israel free from slavery. Paul and Silas, when they were in prison, began to sing at midnight. God did a miracle of deliverance and salvation that midnight.
The psalmist, in our Bible passage, chooses to rise at midnight and give thanks to God. God expects us to give thanks to Him even in the most difficult times of our lives; a time we really feel the pain of sickness and the stab of loneliness and sorrow. At your midnight- your moment of pain and sorrow- do not just sit down and cry; stand up and sing and thank God. He will come and save you and help you.
