Study Habit Part 2: Effective Reading

Key Verse

Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine” (1 Timothy 4:13).

Text — 1 Timothy 4:12-15

Message

“Readers are leaders,” is a timeless truth. Consider the story of Ben Carson, a young boy from a poor background who struggled academically. His mother, despite her limited education, insisted he read two library books weekly. Over time, his reading habit transformed him into one of the world’s most renowned neurosurgeons. Apostle Paul, in his letter to Timothy, stressed the importance of intentional reading – not just for knowledge but also for spiritual growth and leadership. Students who find it difficult to read are often tempted to cheat during examinations. True children of God don’t engage in examination malpractice because it is sinful to do so.  Effective reading entails following a structured reading timetable and knowing what to read at the right time.

For youths today, effective reading is not just about academic success; it’s about equipping oneself with wisdom, discernment, and godly principles. Reading the Bible regularly, alongside other enriching materials, builds spiritual stamina and moral clarity. Like Timothy and Ben Carson, your commitment to reading can shape your destiny and make you a light in your generation.

Challenge

Your mind can only grow where your books go.

Prayer for today

Lord, give me the grace to read wisely and to apply what I learn.
