Key Verse
“His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.” Proverbs 5:22
Text — Proverbs 5:21-23
Message
One common way of catching birds or animals is through a trap. A trap is a device or something by which one is caught or stopped unawares. It is also a device that holds by springing shut suddenly. It is deceitfully hidden sometimes with a bait attached to attract the prey. The simplest, yet very effective trap, is made up of a metal cord that forms a loop firmly nailed to a stationary plank of wood placed in a slanted position. Any animal that is caught in the trap cannot escape the hunter’s pot.
Sadly, people daily produce the cords that hold or trap them and keep them in bondage through their continuous habit of sin and evil. It is never an easy thing to break away from the habit of sin. The sinner produces the cord that holds him captive, he does this through evil thoughts, immoral friendships, the places he goes to, the friends he keeps, the books he reads, and the songs he listens to. When sinners do wicked things, they think they are hurting others, not knowing that they are actually harming themselves.
Sin is dangerous and deadly; it brings punishment and eternal suffering in hell unless the sinner repents. If you have found yourself in the “sin- trap,” there is an opportunity for you to be set free. Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart. He loves you and is not willing that you perish. Therefore, repent now, ask for forgiveness and cleansing of your heart with His blood. Ask Him to come into your heart to be your Saviour and Friend. If you sincerely pray and follow this step, you will be free and free indeed.
