“Shun Eye Service”
Friday, May 2, 2025Key Verse
“Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God” (Colossians 3:22).
Text —Colossians 3:22-25
Message
Many youths think eye service simply means pretense but it goes beyond mere affectation to describe a hypocritical character of servants towards their masters or employers. They only do the right thing when the employer is nearby, watching or directly supervising them.
They please men as long as they are being watched but otherwise, they abandon their duties to focus on other matters. It is beneath Christians to render eye service either to our earthly masters such as parents, employers, teachers, lecturers, and government officials, or church leaders. Many men of God in Bible times shunned eye service. Of Daniel in Babylonian public service, it is written, “…but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him” (Daniel 6:4b). Such also was the life of Joseph in Egypt. How is your life and conduct in the school, church or place of work? As a student, do not read your books only when you are being watched; imbibe the culture of self-discipline, self-motivation, and diligence in your studies and walk with God.
