Key Verse
“And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach” (Mark 3:14).
Text —Mark 3:13-19
Message
Jesus has been considered the ultimate leader, having demonstrated the salient traits of servant-leadership. He built a formidable team using time-tested strategies of effective leadership. In our text today, we see Jesus applying the principle of purposeful selection. He recruited individuals with different skills and backgrounds to be part of His team. He mentored them through instruction and association. The disciples were to be with Him and learn from Him. He often gave them opportunity to preach and exercise authority over demons. That is the principle of delegation. While the disciples displayed their gifts, He followed them up through supervision.
Above all, Jesus communicated to them the ultimate objectives or goal of His ministry, the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom. This is the principle of shared vision. These disciples ultimately proved to be an effective team, taking the gates of hell by storm, and turning the world upside down with the gospel. To achieve heaven’s goal today, each believer needs to be a purposeful team player and align with the mission of spreading the gospel of the kingdom.
