“Help The Weak”

Key Verse

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).

TEXT — Galatians 6:1-6

Message

The story of the Brownlee brothers’ fantastic finish in the triathlon athletic event went viral in 2016. During the World Triathlon Series in Mexico, Jonny, the younger (26), was exhausted, dazed and almost collapsing a few metres before the finish line. But Alistair, the elder (28), got hold of him, shouted, “You can make it!” and pushed him over the line to come second, while he (Alistair) came third. Alistair could have won the race but slowed his run to help his fainting brother. Later on, Alistair, claiming to be a no-hero for his deed, recalled that he was in a similar situation during the 2010 event.

God expects and commands stronger members of the Christian family to be sensitive and respond to the needs of weaker ones. Those who fall need other believers to help them rise. They need gentle hands to nurse them back to spiritual health rather than abrasive hands or piercing tongues aggravating their pain. The strong should gently rebuke the fallen so they can admit their faults and seek restoration.

It is not only those who fall that need help, but even those who are burdened, weary, confused and weak in faith (Romans 14:1; 15:1). As believers, we are to bear one another’s burden. The rich should assist the poor, those at ease should help the diseased and the privileged should reach out to the underprivileged without bad-mouthing or shaming them.

Considering that we are one body in Christ, we should use our talents, treasure and time to benefit others who are less endowed. As you go out today, be ready to help and make yourself accessible to those who need your help.

Thought for the day

“The Christian race is not a competition; help others to win.”
