“They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever” (Psalm 125:1).
TEXT — Psalm 125:1-5
Message
Corrie ten Boom, a WWII concentration camp survivor, in her acclaimed book, The Hiding Place, described the pain of standing for hours, at attention before her Nazi captors, in the freezing cold of the pre-dawn hours, or huddled on the wooden bunks, sharing blankets and body heat against the crippling chill of the winter nights in captivity. Why was there no relief from her cold, hard trials? Where, in those moments, were the wings of God’s protection? They were spread wide over her still, just as He promised! But sometimes, God stays and goes through the vicissitudes of life with us, instead of removing them.
The Psalm being reviewed emphasizes the abundant blessings and eternal inheritance provided by God. It highlights His strength, power, and faithfulness, assuring believers of His constant presence and protection against evil. The mention of mount Zion in Jerusalem symbolizes God’s unwavering stability and infinity, promising that it will last forever. This imagery represents God as a shield, stronghold, and sustainer for His people, offering them His divine protection and support. The psalm conveys the message that by trusting in God, believers are assured the same security and care as the inhabitants of Jerusalem, His chosen city. It ultimately emphasises God’s role as the Protector and Sustainer of His followers, including the church as His cherished heritage.
Believers, by holy living and consistent obedience to His word, dwell in the secret place of the Highest and will abide under the shadow of the Almighty. We must say that God’s people do not need to fear, worry, or be anxious. Our God is on the throne, and no one can hurt or harm us as long as we remain in His secret place. The adversary and his cohort will make attempts but will never succeed.
While mercy, favour, protection, and divine presence guard and guide the righteous, the wicked who persist in unrighteousness shall not go unpunished.
