Key Verse
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
Text — Psalm 118:23,24
Message
Thousands of years ago, nothing about the days or months was written down. Farmers paid special attention to the seasons of the year and the nights and days because they needed to know when to plant their crops and harvest them. But everyone was interested in how many days were going by and what time of year it was. An excellent way of keeping track was to look at the night skies, watching when the moon grew full and seeing how the planets changed position among the stars. Eventually people began to see patterns. It was the Egyptians who first made a calendar that people could use more than seven thousand years ago. It had twelve months and each had thirty days. Through the years the calendar included 365 days. Today our months are a little bit different from the Egyptian calendar, but we still use their idea of 365 days for a year.
No matter how we count the days or try to figure out what will happen in each one of them, the Bible reminds us about what really counts. God wants us to appreciate and enjoy each day and be thankful to Him for the gift of life. He gives us every day we are here on earth. He also desires that we worship and serve Him in holiness and righteousness all the days of our lives. This is the only life that counts.
