Key Verse
“And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (Luke 22:44).
Text — Luke 22:39-46
Message
Imagine a man that is yelling for rescue under a heavy truck. His pain is nothing to be compared with the burden the Lord Jesus was about to bear. Time had come for Him to go to the cross to be crucified as predicted for the sins and sorrows of humanity. Human would like to avoid such a preventable tragedy, but Jesus did not for His love for mankind. What Jesus did to bear the heavy burden in order to fulfill the will of God is what all believers need to do at all times. He earnestly prayed, “Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” It is a prayer of consecration and commitment to do God’s will even at the point of death.
Dear friend, such a prayer is not a snappy type. The Lord Jesus agonized in prayer for hours to overcome the temptation of dropping the will of God. Believers need to pray to overcome all hindrances in their way to heaven.
