Key Verse
“I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images” (Isaiah 42:8).
Text —Isaiah 40:18-26
Message
God has always commanded the children of Israel not to worship idols. In the ten Commandments, God said, thou shall have no other gods before me (Exodus 20:3). It is idol worship to set up an image and bow to it. However, Idol worship goes beyond having a graven image that someone worships in the corner of his room or in a shrine.
Anything that takes the place of God in our lives is an idol. It is very easy to fall into idolatry, unknowingly. Whenever we allow the desire for money, academic success, materialism, fame, sports, fashion, lust or love for anyone, to take precedence over God in our lives, we have become idol worshipers. Many youths today have set up idols in their lives through their lifestyles including abandoning fellowship for football matches, engraving tattoos on their bodies, and craving for fame and popularity at the expense of their spiritual lives. They have set up idols in their hearts. Keep yourselves from idols; lest you get into conflict with God.
