Message
A REBELLIOUS ACCORD
Gen 11:1-9
MEMORY VERSE: GENESIS 11:8
Louis Blanc, a French socialist and historian, said shortly before his execution, when I was an infant, I rebelled against my nurse. When I was a child, I rebelled against my mother and Father. When I reached a mature age, I rebelled against the state. When I die, if there is a heaven and God, I will rebel against him. – Copied.
The attempt to build a tower to reach heaven was against express instruction to multiply and replenish the earth. Despite the deluge, they determine to gratify their depravity against God’s will. They said, ‘Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven, and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth’. They planned to truncate God’s counsel of replenishing or populating the earth.
In the defiance of that generation, someone said. ‘The sin of the people in the land of Shinar was the desire to dominate the world and their destiny apart from God through man-centred organizational unity, power and outstanding accomplishments.
With rebellious outbreaks, there will be anarchy, a breakdown of law and order, disunity, and societal regression. God, therefore, destroyed their efforts by multiplying languages so some could no longer communicate with others. This explains the diversity of races and languages in the world, eventually leading to the proliferation of idolatrous worship and magical practices like sorcery, divination, astrology and other man-centred religious activities—Deuteronomy 18:10-12.
God hates rebellion and would not condone it in anyone who professes to serve him because rebellion against established institutions attracts grave consequences. If revolution is condemnable in human organizations, no lesser demand is expected of the Church of the Living God. Though hands may join in fellowship, rebels will not be spared. Though an archangel, the devil lost his privileges in heaven because of pride and rebellion. God will not spare men who do, except they genuinely repent and live new lives empowered by the grace of God made available through faith in Christ.
Finally, while evil communication corrupts good manners, God does not prohibit the union of positive-minded people whose motive and deliberations lead to progress, advancement and peaceful coexistence in our societies. Believers should be harbingers of progressive ideas, contribute, and stand solidly behind good governance and unifying plans of the organizations and communities they belong to. They must not directly or otherwise support any group or associations that may lead to anarchy.
Thought for the day
A rebellious accord is a perfect recipe for regrettable discord.
