A Hearer And Doer
Tuesday, November 4, 2025Key Verse
“But be ye doers of the word, and not a hearer only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass” (James 1:22-23).
Text — James 1:19-25
Message
In his Sermon, “A Warning to Waverer,” the renowned preacher, C. H. Spurgeon, said, “To look in the glass and not to wash off the spot, is but a piece of vanity. And to hear a sermon, or read a chapter and not to put into practice what we have taught is a sad waste of time.” Our text focuses on right attitude, and deposition expected from every child of God as he or she reads and hears God’s word, whether during personal devotion, or at the place of worship. Refusal to act on God’s word can be described as time wasting and can as well be described as self-deception which could lead to perdition if not repented of.
As we hear the word of the Lord, we must also do it, because the measure of our lives is determined by the level of the word of God we hear, know and do. Youths who refuse to accept the word of God are exposed to vices that can easily ruin their lives in this world and in eternity.
