Key Verse
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11).
TEXT — Ephesians 6:10–18
Message
It is certain that we are in the midst of foes and are daily engaged in the battles of life. We wage wars against principalities and powers, fallen angels led by Satan himself. To repel their attacks, we must depend on God’s strength.
Paul the apostle, in our text, having taken the Ephesian church through some teachings, warned them about the tough times they would face and what they needed to do to fight against the enemies (Satan and his cohorts). The enemy will do everything to hinder their spiritual progress, hence the apostle laid out the specific precepts they were to follow as they went into these spiritual battles. They were not to approach the battles in their own strength but must arm themselves as warriors by putting on the whole armour of God so as to prevail. Our fight against the wiles of the devil, whether in the church, family or individual lives is basically spiritual and not physical. The wiles of the devil include unbelief, division, discouragement, temptation, compromise, unforgiving spirit, fear, spiritual apathy, etc. We also fight against the host of evil spirits, unseen forces and powers of darkness that attack believers in every sphere of life.
Like soldiers, the Lord expects us to endure hardship in the course of the battles of life, defend the gospel at all costs and earnestly contend for the faith delivered to saints. We are assured of victory because Christ, our Captain, has secured victory for us on the cross at Calvary. At all times, we must arm ourselves with the word of God and pray ceaselessly, as it constitutes an essential weapon in the battle. In this battle, there is no room for looking back. We must march on courageously, fully assured that victory is certain.
Thought for the day
To fail to pray is to fall prey to the devil.
