Key Verse
“And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where” (Luke 9:6).
TEXT — Luke 9:1-9
Message
The first lesson a mentee learns is to aspire to be like his mentor. To get to that stage, he must, upon receiving instruction from his master, put it into practise. Largely, it is the mentor who assigns his mentee(s) a fieldwork to practise what they have received in the enclosure of the class. That is when the students prove their readiness to be trusted with noble responsibilities, as proof of comprehended instruction.
Having chosen twelve disciples and taught them the imperatives of the kingdom of God and His own earthly mission, the Lord decided that the time had come to release them for practical work. He expected His followers to be like Him and seek the lost wherever they might be found. Therefore, the instruction came: go into every part of the world to preach the kingdom of God.
The same charge is applicable to every believer who wants to be like the Redeemer. It is an unconditional and unambiguous command. When we are saved, it then becomes our duty to seek the lost, preach and teach them the gospel of salvation.
As Christ is holy, so must we be. He was also unconditionally obedient, honouring the Father’s desire that He should die to save the sinner. The disciple must also be obedient to the Lord’s command with respect to evangelism. We must leave our cosy closets, and go “through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where”. It is a proof that we dearly love the Master and have imbibed His precepts and are determined to obey His instructions in full.
