Wednesday, March 25, 2026Key Verse
“But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever” (Jeremiah 35:6).
Text — Jeremiah 35:1-11
Message
In the 2nd century, there lived a man called Polycarp, a bishop of Smyrna, modern-day Izmir, Turkey, whose death is one of the most famous accounts of early Christian martyrdom. According to historical sources, Polycarp was arrested for his faith and the Roman authorities ordered him to recant his faith, but he refused.
Resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something. The Rechabites were resolute to follow the instruction given by their father. Their faithfulness and obedience were used by God to contrast the disobedience of the people of Judah, highlighting the Rechabites’ faithfulness as a model. As the Rechabites were resolute in following their father’s instructions, so also are we to be resolute in following the instruction of God written in the Holy Bible and the godly counsel of our parents, and leaders in the church in order to succeed and please God. Also, we are to be steadfast in taking our stand for Jesus Christ and not to compromise our faith in the face of trials and persecution. Remember Polycarp.
