Message
The phrase “the finger of God” depicts God’s power and intervention in human affairs, signifying His authority and ability to act decisively. It conveys God’s might and the manifestation of God’s will. The phrase is found four times in the Bible with striking emphasis on God’s power.
In our text, Pharaoh’s magicians acknowledged God’s power after failing to replicate the third plague. The Ten Commandments delivered to the children of Israel were inscribed on tables of stone by the finger of God (Deuteronomy 9:10). Jesus Christ attributes His miracles to the finger of God, demonstrating God’s power and unimaginable might. In essence, the phrase translates succinctly thus: (i) God’s unrestrained power and dealings in all areas of human endeavours; (ii) a call to action, urging believers to live according to God’s will to avoid earthly and eternal punishment and (iii) a reminder to trust in God’s power to bring about positive change in all facets of life. The revelation of the finger of God is meant to awaken us to realize His power and might and the need to reverence Him unconditionally.
