The Youth And Valentine’s Day
Saturday, February 14, 2026Key Verse
“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry” (Colossians 3:5).
Text — Colossians 3:5-7
Message
Valentine was celebrated in remembrance of a clergyman in the Roman Empire who ministered to persecuted Christians. He was martyred and buried on February 14, leading to the modern tradition of exchanging gifts and expressing love on this date for eight centuries running. Sadly, what goes on in the world on Valentine’s Day is more of a show of lust or eros, disguised as pure love: a day when fornication and adultery are high and the dignity of many girls is taken away with gifts that will perish with the gullible receiver.
Three kinds of love exist – sturge love, existing among family members, eros love, a sexual attraction love which can lead to defilement or marriage and finally, agape love, which is godly, unselfish, and pure, that Christians should always have and not be deceived into choosing one day out of 365(6). Friend, avoid eros-driven Valentine celebrations. Agape Love (the God-kind of Love) must be demonstrated by Christian youths through preaching to sinners, inviting them to life-changing Christian programmes, lending a hand to the needy, and being a shining example of Christ.
