Study Habits 1: Goal-Setting

Key Verse

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it” (Luke 14:28)?

Text — Luke 14:28-32

Message

Youthful age is a pivotal period in life, a period of immense growth and discovery. But with that growth comes the challenge of navigating academic pressures and building a solid foundation for the future. One crucial tool in your arsenal is effective goal-setting. Tony Robbins once said:  “Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.”  Goal-setting provides direction, focus, and a sense of purpose. It transforms your studies from a daunting task into a series of achievable milestones.

Just as Jesus spoke about counting the cost before starting a project, students must determine why they study. Is it to excel in exams, master a subject, or gain knowledge for future careers? Instead of setting broad goals, divide them into daily or weekly targets. Set SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound goals. Monitor progress periodically and adjust strategies if needed. Youths who adopt strategic goal-setting in their studies will find it easier to stay focused, motivated, and successful in their academic pursuits. Above all, involve God in your study plan and ask Him for help.
