Wednesday, December 3, 2025Key Verse
“I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.” Song of Solomon 2:1
Text — Song of Solomon 2:1-4
Message
The Bible mentions lilies 15 times in 15 different verses. Of these 15, about 8 of them occur in the song of Solomon. One of the most significant verses are song of Solomon 2:1,2. These verses are significant because they refer to Jesus Christ. From the characteristics of the lilies, we can see that Jesus Christ is the true Lily of the valley.
i. A lily is sweet with a strong scent. Jesus has sweetness in His ministry especially when He gave “Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour” (Ephesians 5:2)
ii. A lily is white and beautiful more than all other flowers. white is a picture of purity. “For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens” (Hebrews 7:26)
iii. A lily is very fruitful. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, He brings forth much fruit through the salvation of sinners. (John 12:24)
iv. The lily has many medicinal qualities. The Lord Jesus Christ is the great physician and is fully capable of curing all diseases and sicknesses.
v. The lily is said to be the tallest of flowers and yet hangs its head down as a mark of humility. Jesus Christ humbles Himself even to the point of laying down His life to die on the cross for our sin.
The lily plant has spoken to us about the great attributes of our Saviour. What is expected of you is to desire and pray that your life should bear these characteristics. Then you can go forth and bring many sinners to Jesus, the Lily of the valley
