The Prize Of Our High Calling

Key Verse

“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).

TEXT — Philippians 3:13-16

Message

Many are familiar with the inspiring story of Nick Vujicic, born without limbs. Not many, however, know how he has continued to push aside the burdens and challenges of his disabilities to become a great instrument of inspiration and ambassador of the gospel. Nick faced tremendous challenges and bullying during his childhood but did not allow that to deter him, as his faith led him to become an international motivational speaker and evangelist, inspiring millions with his message of hope and resilience. He elevated his spirit above his body. He has turned the privilege of receiving the gospel and this high calling into a tool that has enabled him to transform his trials into triumphs and become a blessing to millions worldwide.

The Christian calling was not and cannot be procured on the altar of mental and secular appointments. It does not crumble under physical disability or mental weakness. Described variously in Scripture as a high, holy and heavenly calling, it implies that believers’ choice and assignment in Kingdom service emanate from a greater power and elevated platform. It comes with a total package that eliminates sin, carelessness and frivolities. It blesses us with freedom from sin, holiness, a consistent, blameless life and walk with God. This high calling, however, demands Christians to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, consecrated and committed to remaining faithful to our Lord and Master.

Despite his eloquent testimonies of success and achievement in God’s service, Apostle Paul refused to be complacent and took nothing for granted. He expressed an undying passion for heaven and the service of the Lord. Hence, he said, “I press toward the mark for the prize of God’s high calling in Christ Jesus.” What a lesson! What an example! We must appreciate our calling as believers and strive daily, labouring in His vineyard and praying that the Lord will plant our feet on higher ground every day. This will enable us to run this race successfully to the end and win the ultimate prize by God’s grace.

Thought for the day

The pursuit of heaven’s goal requires absolute consecration.
