“The Christian’s Boosts Part 4 – Temperance (Self-Control)”
Thursday, September 11, 2025Key Verse
“And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness.” 2 Peter 1:6
Text —2 Peter 1:5-9
Message
Temperance refers to self-control or moderation in all areas of life. It involves having control over one’s desires, emotions, feelings and actions, particularly in situations where it is easy to give in to temptation or excesses. Believers are reminded to cultivate the ability to make wise and balanced choices, ensuring that they do not allow their desires to keep them off God’s path.
Self-control, like a car’s steering wheel and brakes, guides and regulates your life’s journey. Alongside other virtues, it helps you grow as a Christian. As a friend of Jesus, you must have godly control over what you eat, drink, listen to, watch, places you go, things you wear, the people you keep company with and the thoughts you process in your heart. This can only happen when you allow the Spirit of God to rule and control your life. Strength lies in self-control, as Proverbs 16:32 teaches, “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”
