Message
Waiting for Godot, a play written by Samuel Becket, described the curious story of two bedraggled characters, Vladimir and Estragon, who were awaiting a man named Godot. They were not certain if they had ever met Godot, nor if he would even arrive. The play is often interpreted as a depiction of the pointless, uneventful, and repetitive nature of modern life, which is often lived in anticipation of something which never materializes. This is in contrast to waiting for the return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ which is sure and imminent.
Friend, believers are not waiting for an elusive character that will never show up. They are waiting for their Saviour, who was once on the earth’s stage, and after His work of redemption on the cross, was received into heaven. He will come again in like manner to receive His saints. Believers are to live their lives always anticipating Christ’s imminent return, either through death or in the rapture. Sinners are to repent without further delay to avoid the danger of hell.
