Message
The story of a visitor from America, eager to hear Spurgeon, the famous prince of preachers, is a striking one. After listening to a sermon delivered by Spurgeon the American stood in the vestibule of the church and talked to his English friend. He did not know that Spurgeon was standing nearby listening. The Englishman asked what his friend thought of the service, and he replied, “What a preacher!” According to the story, Spurgeon began to weep. A church member asked him what was wrong and Spurgeon said, “I wish he had said, ‘What a Saviour!’”
When we lift up ourselves, we are downgrading God, and ascribing the glory due to Him to His creature. The consequence of this act is being abased. Don’t forget Nebuchadnezzar refused to give God the glory and was banished to the forest to live like an animal for seven years. Herod tried to share the glory with the Highest and was eaten up by worms. We are duty bound to lift up Jesus everywhere we go. Talk about His love to humanity and return the glory to Him.
