Wednesday, July 9, 2025Key Verse
“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone; if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother” (Matthew 18: 15).
Text — Matthew 18 : 15-17
Message
It was John L. Mason who said, “There are two marks of a Christian: giving and forgiving.” Joseph was only 17 years old when his jealous brothers sold him into slavery. Then as a servant in Potiphar’s house he was falsely accused of assaulting Potiphar’s wife, and thrown into prison. He suffered persecution from his brothers and his boss for righteousness sake, yet he forgave every offence against him. Alexander Pope (1688-1744), the English satirist in his work, “An Essay on Criticism” wrote the famous axiom, “To err is human, to forgive divine.” The desire of Jesus Christ is that we forgive all faults and this was clearly expressed in Matthew 18: 21-22 when Peter asked Christ, “Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? till seven times? and Jesus responded, “I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” Jesus wants us to always forgive.
Our goal is heaven and to make heaven, we must lay aside all bitterness, wrath, anger, vendetta, and offences. We should forgive all faults wholeheartedly like Joseph.
