“Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation” (Hebrews 12:28).
Text —Hebrews 12:5-9
Message
“If our church leaders are living and leading biblically, our job is to show our support. Many pastors burn out, because they are over-burdened and feel their work goes unappreciated,” says David Wright. The Bible teaches us to honour our church leaders. In 2 Samuel 1:14-16, the Scripture says even though Saul was deficient as a leader of Israel, David showed respect for him and for his position, calling him “the Lord’s anointed.” Honour is an internal attitude of respect, which is expressed by appropriate actions and not lip service.
As a young Christian, do you remember and show honour to your leaders? One of the ways to do so is by obeying them. When we honour and respect our leaders in the church, we are indirectly doing the things that please God. Honour your church leaders by supporting them (1 Timothy 5:17, 18), loving them (John 13:34), praying for them (Romans 15:30), and submitting to them (Hebrews 13:17). Do not forget that they lead under God’s leadership and are ultimately accountable to Him. However, do not obey blindly but do so when they teach in accordance with God’s Word.
