Saturday, June 7, 2025Key Verse
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26).
Text —Ezekiel 36:24-28
Message
“Grace is God as heart surgeon, cracking open your chest, removing your heart – poisoned as it is with pride and pain – and replacing it with His own,” says Max Lucado. Spiritual heart surgery is a metaphorical concept that emphasizes deep repentance and transformation. In this context, the heart symbolizes our inner being, the source of our emotions, intentions and desires. True repentance goes beyond superficial change; it involves a profound shift in desires and understanding. Repentance is not something we naturally desire or fully comprehend; it is the work of God within us. Just as a surgeon performs physical heart surgery, God performs spiritual heart surgery by renewing our hearts, while cutting away harmful affections and priorities.
To benefit from the abundant life in the new covenant with Jesus Christ, you must surrender to God for this transformative work, allowing Him to replace the filthiness and idols of your stony heart with a new heart of flesh as he promises in our text. The Holy Spirit, like a heart surgeon, creates faith, convicts of sin, and brings healing through forgiveness.
